They specialize in providing public accounting services to small and medium size businesses both within and outside the GTA. Position Summary

Professional staff members in this position have at least two years’ experience in a public accounting firm. The Staff Accountant is a professional who will provide efficient and reliable Accounting and Audit work, Assurance (Review Engagements and NTRs), Tax, and business support to our clients. The successful incumbent must have a thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting and Auditing Principles and Canadian taxation to be able to carry out work in a variety of engagements.

Responsibilities and Duties

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and review client files including Notice to Readers, Audit and Review Engagements
  • Prepare financial statements including all the required notes and year end letters (i.e., enclosure letter, legal information letter and engagement letter)
  • Ensure that all planned procedures have been completed in accordance with the firm’s policies and procedure
  • Prepare and review personal (T1) and corporate (T2) tax returns
  • Prepare and review corporate payroll, T4, T4A, T5, and NR4 filings
  • Prepare and review HST and Payroll remittance reports
  • Correspondence with CRA on behalf of clients
  • Develop direct contacts with clients for follow up on information requests
  • Review bookkeeping and prepare periodic reports for clients
  • Provide accounting software assistance and set-up
  • Assist with due diligence and field examinations conducted for lenders
  • Assist with internal audit engagements, including compliance reviews conducted on behalf of stewardship organizations
  • Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills

Education and other requirements:

  • Achievement of a Professional Accounting Designation (or in progress)
  • Minimum 2 years successful work experience in a similar position in a public accounting environment required
  • Knowledge of Canadian GAAP, Canadian Auditing Standards and Canadian tax, and experience with assurance engagements,
  • Working knowledge with Caseware and Profile/TaxPrep is required
  • Working knowledge of various accounting programs such as QuickBooks, Accpac, Sage 50/Simply Accounting is required
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.) required
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task competing priorities
